Trees and shrubs
The Candellila is a plant that is a member of the spurge family that produces a wax that has uses in the cosmetic, culinary and other fields. Trees and shrubs around the campgrounds along the river are Cottonwood, Mesquite, and Huisache. Likely vegetation near the river include Willows, Retama, and Saltcedar. The most common desert shrubs are Creosote bush, Ocotillo, Cenizo, Sotol, and Mesquite. Trees in the Chisos Mountains are Peñon, Oak, and Juniper. Also, there are nine different Oaks in Big Bend National Park. They have simple alternate leaves that are smooth, lobed, or toothed. Hybridization is very common among Oaks.
